How to choose the size of a braided crib bumper? A practical guide for parents

Soft, safe, and wonderfully decorative – the Super Soft braid bumper is not only a practical element of a child's room equipment but also a favorite sleep companion for many little ones. However, before purchasing, the question often arises: what size will be best? Is a length of 120 cm enough, or should you choose 300 cm?

In this post, we will show you how to choose the appropriate length and height of the braid, depending on the child's age, cot type, and your needs.

👶 Braid for an infant or an older child? It makes a difference!

🍼 Infant (cot 120x60 cm or 140x70 cm)

In the first months of life, a child does not move too intensely – the braid primarily serves a protective function. It can be placed in the cot from around 2-3 months of age, when the little one starts to make more conscious movements with their hands and feet. Earlier, in the first weeks of life, a bumper is not needed – especially if the child sleeps in a cocoon or is stably positioned in the middle of the cot. In the first months of life, it is recommended to leave the cot without any accessories.

💡 Tip: It's worth observing your little one – if you notice that they are moving more often towards the bars, lifting their legs, or starting to turn over, it's a sign that it's time for a braid. Then it becomes a real protection against bumps and limb entrapment.

👉 Recommended lengths:

  • 120 cm and 140 cm (will cover only one side of the cot, depending on its dimensions)
  • 200 cm and 240 cm – for arranging into an "L" shape (headboard + side) or a "U" shape (headboard and part of both sides)
  • 300 cm – protection for 2 sides and the headboard (leaves space at the foot of the cot, which the child cannot reach yet).

👧 Older child (child's cot or daybed)

When the child is more active, the bumper can act as a barrier, a snuggle buddy, or a decoration on a larger bed. In this case, longer models work best.

👉 Recommended lengths:

  • 240–300 cm – for a child's bed
  • 350–400 cm – full perimeter of a daybed or for use as a soft barrier

How to choose the right size? Step by step

1. Measure the cot – the most popular sizes are 120x60 cm and 140x70 cm.

2. Consider how you want to arrange the braid:

  • only at the head?
  • along one or two sides?
  • around the entire perimeter?

3. Choose the preferred effect – more protective (for an infant) or decorative / multi-functional (for an older child).

4. Check available lengths:

  • 120 - 140 cm – minimal protection for one side
  • 200 cm – headboard + side
  • 240–300 cm – protection for two longer sides
  • 350–400 cm – larger children's beds, daybeds

5. Remember the height – approx. 15 cm – this is the optimal height that protects but does not interfere with observing the child.

6. Braids with more than 3 strands are slightly taller, measuring 20-25 cm. Such models are best suited for older children's beds as a pillow and wall protection.
